State Grants

Michigan Tuition Grant and Competitive Scholarships

The Tuition Grant and Scholarship Programs are need-based programs, and a student may not receive assistance from both sources during the same semester.  Current Michigan residency and Michigan residency of one year is required for all state aid programs. Both programs require filing the FAFSA, completing the state residency questions on the FAFSA and selecting Siena Heights University as the school of choice within the MiSSG Student Portal.

Assistance from each program is renewable for up to 10 semesters provided the student is still a current Michigan resident, maintaining a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher, maintaining satisfactory academic progress, submits the FAFSA annually and selects Siena Heights University as the school of choice within the MiSSG Student Portal.

The State deadline for filing the 2019-2020 FAFSA is March 1st, 2019. This means that in order to be considered for the Michigan Tuition Grant, you must have a valid FAFSA filed and received by Siena no later than this deadline.

Michigan Tuition Incentive Program (TIP)

The Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) encourages eligible Medicaid recipients to complete high school by providing tuition assistance for college. TIP provides assistance in two phases. Phase I is applied to standard in-district tuition and mandatory fees charged to eligible students enrolled in a credit-based or minimum one year certificate program or associate degree at a participating Michigan community college, public university, degree-granting independent college, federal tribally-controlled college, or Focus: HOPE. Phase II provides a maximum of $2,000 total tuition assistance for credits earned in a four-year program at an in-state, degree-granting college or university. Award parameters are subject to legislative changes.
